The Journey

This is "study-based travel" at its finest. Two days at a Pu'er tea estate learning the complete craft from leaf to cake, followed by Xishuangbanna's tropical wonderland of Dai culture, rainforest canopy walks, and the legendary Starlight Night Market. Southern Yunnan is where tourism becomes education.

DAY1

Kunming ▶Pu'er

Arrive at Kunming Changshui International Airport. High-speed rail to Pu'er (2.5 hours). Afternoon: Ancient Tea Horse Road relics and China Pu'er Tea Expo Garden. Dinner: Pu'er ethnic cuisine —Lahu grilled fish and Wa chicken rice porridge. Pu'er tea estate guesthouse.

DAY2

Pu'er Tea Culture Deep Dive

Full day at tea mountain plantations. Morning: join tea farmers for leaf picking (spring/autumn preferred). Afternoon: complete tea processing —withering, pan-firing, rolling, sun-drying, pressing. Optional: tea tasting masterclass distinguishing raw vs. ripe pu'er. Evening: stargazing at the tea estate.

DAY3

Pu'er ▶Xishuangbanna

Drive to Xishuangbanna (2.5 hours). Afternoon: Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden —13,000+ plant species. Dinner: Dai ethnic cuisine —pineapple rice, lemongrass grilled fish. Gaozhuang Xishuangjing Dai-style resort. Evening: Starlight Night Market —Southeast Asian atmosphere.

DAY4

Xishuangbanna Dai Cultural Experience

Morning: Dai Garden (Olive Dam) —water-splashing activity and Dai village visit. Afternoon: Mengle Grand Buddha Temple (Theravada Buddhist sanctuary) and Dai craft workshops. Optional: Tropical rainforest hiking at Parashorea tree canopy skywalk. Evening: Dai bonfire party.

DAY5

Xishuangbanna ▶Departure

Morning: free time at Gaozhuang morning market and riverside shopping. Optional: Wild Elephant Valley —wild Asian elephant observation (non-contact). Afternoon: depart from Xishuangbanna Gasa Airport.

When is the Water-Splashing Festival?

April 13-15 every year (peak celebration in Xishuangbanna). It's the Dai New Year — everyone gets soaked! Bring a waterproof phone case and quick-dry clothes. If you visit outside these dates, we arrange a private "mini splash" at a Dai village.

Is the rainforest hike safe?

Yes. We only enter the pristine rainforest with a certified local guide and botanist. Leeches exist (rainy season) — we provide leech socks. Snakes? Rarely seen on our trail. We carry a first-aid kit and satellite phone.

What is the best season for Xishuangbanna?

November-March: dry, pleasant (20-28°C), perfect for outdoors. April-June: hot (30-35°C) but it's Water-Splashing Festival season. July-October: rainy, lush green, fewer tourists, great for botanic garden.

Can I buy Pu'er tea and ship it home?

Yes. We visit a reputable tea plantation (not a tourist shop). You can taste before buying. For shipping: aged Pu'er (compressed) ships easily worldwide. Green tea (non-fermented) is best consumed within 6 months — we can help with express shipping to Asia-Pacific.

What exotic fruits should I try?

Starlight Night Market is fruit heaven! Must-try: mangosteen (queen of fruits), rambutan, dragon fruit, rose apple, jackfruit. Durian is an acquired taste — try a small bite first! We'll buy them and have a "tropical fruit tasting" at the inn.
